It's time for Read a thon!!

Show off your reading Superpower!
May is our month to read and raise money!
John Wilson Elementary School staff and School Council are joining forces to organize our Read-a-thon Fundraiser for 20 days of reading through May 2025! This year we will continue to target these fundraised dollars to support student programs such as Alien in-line, school-wide presentations and activities, classroom libraries, etc. Our last Read-a-thon raised about $10 000.00 and we hope to do better this year!
How does it work?
Each grade level will be given a specified amount of daily minutes for home reading. The goal for each student is to read this amount each week throughout the month of May. Home reading minutes will be tracked by parents on the attached Reading Minutes Tracking Sheet. Students are encouraged to collect pledges from family and friends for the reading they do. Pledges are made in a lump sum which the student earns by reading the set number of minutes throughout the Read-a-thon time period.
Prizes are also part of the Read-a-thon Fundraiser! Prize tickets will be earned by students for prize draws that will take place at the end of the Read-a-thon. Students will be able to choose which prizes they want to enter their tickets for. Students will receive 4 tickets for every week they meet the reading goal set for their grade level. There are some bonus ticket opportunities as well!
Students will also earn 1 ticket for every $5.00 in pledges they collect. The more money a student collects, the more chances they have to win some amazing prizes!
In addition, students will be able to work as a class to earn weekly prizes such as pencils, small toys bookmarks, etc. for meeting their reading minutes goal!
How do I pledge my Super Reader?
Pledges can be made by parents/guardians in a lump sum online at johnwilsonschool.ca under the Online Payment Tab. If you do not already have an account set up, please call the office for assistance.
Please return all pledge sheets to the school as we will need the information for tax receipts and to match to pledge totals.
